Match Report Vs Cambridge VC Anglia Ruskin University

Report by Chris Frost
25-21, 25-17, 25-11

The third round of the national cup competition was to be played again Cambridge, who travelled up to Frinton to try and defeat Tendring to get to the quarter finals of the cup.

The game started well for Tendring but they quickly struggled against a strong serve by Cambridge, some big hits from Tendring players were dug well by Cambridge who kept the ball in play and made Tendring work hard for their points. With the game tied at 21-21, Tendring were able to use Karis Watson and Chaniel Nelson to finish the set off 25-21.

The second set, saw Tendring start to play the more fluid volleyball that they had previous played this season, using wing hitters; Fran Smith-Daye and Laura Hodgkinson to good effect. Laura Hodgkinson then went on a brilliant serving run which helped extend Tendring’s lead. Some solid middle work by Jacky Skeen helped Tendring over the line 25-17.

Cambridge continued to apply pressure to Tendring and stuck with Tendring in the rallies, with some super block defence work. However, they were struggling to finish points off, and Tendring were not making as many errors as in previous sets. Sarah Edwards managed to finish the game off on match point. Tendring securing victory and going into the Quarter Finals 25-11.

Big thank you goes to Cambridge for travelling down and pushing the girls, it was a good game and we wish you all the best for the rest of the season.
