25:10, 25:7, 25:12

Report by Sarah Edwards

Sunday 7th October welcomed the start of the 2018/19 Volleyball season for Tendring Volleyball Club Women’s team, when they played their first match in the Cup tournament against Tamworth Spartans.

The team who remain in the top division in the country for another year had their first official game as a team. With 6 new players from across the globe and the addition of two new members to the coaching team, all with huge amounts of knowledge; the team looks set for an extremely successful season.

Despite lacking a couple of starting players, the team rearranged and put out a strong starting line-up. Not knowing anything about the opposition, Tendring started strong from the first point with some powerful serves from players Helen Hunt and Ellie Cranch. The opposition couldn’t handle the strength of Tendring’s serves and the consistency and stability of their attack, so Tendring took the first set 25-10.

The second set also started well for the team with some big swings from Emily Bell through the wing and Amber Erhahon through the middle, made possible by excellent setting from new setter Piyusha Boteju. The passing unit was strong and showed their experience, alongside great leadership and organisation by libero Eleni Bitadou. Tendring took the second set 25-7.

The third set was another strong performance by Tendring, with great swings from Marie-Lena Constantinou with some smart setting decisions by setter Lois Chitticks. The third set was 25-12 to Tendring.
Overall it was a strong first performance by the team, with a very successful season in sight.

The next game will be Saturday 13th October at 13:45 against Sheffield Hallam at the University of Essex.
