Cambridge Anglia Ruskin 0 - 3 Tendring Men

20:25, 8:25, 13:25

Report by Logan Zotovich

The drive into Cambridge was a cold, wet day, by Tendring Men’s Volleyball Club had their spirts high going into another weekend competition after coming off a 3-0 sweep of the Aces the weekend before. The men continued to ride the momentum from the weekend before, and completed another sweep, crushing Cambridge in the second and third sets. Tendring remain the only undefeated team in the NVL, as well as the only team to not drop a set.

The first set started with McLaughlin at setter, Dove at opposite, Mowarski and Vorderer at the outside pins, and Chaney and Gagner in the middle. Although play was fairly point to point with Cambridge, Tendring slowly pulled away with great defensive effort by Dove, and a controlling presence at the pins. A double sub toward the end of the game entered Zotovich (setter) and Smethurst (opposite) to conclude the game.

The second set the Tendring men pulled out to a commanding lead at 6-0 before Cambridge called their first time out. Not much changed as the set continued due to Tendring’s serve receive unit of Andy Styan, Ryan Vorderer, and Tomasz Morawski completely controlling the passing game. Tendring was in-system during most of the game which allowed for all offensive hitters to be completely in rhythm. This meant that Sonny Chaney could not be stopped in the middle and had most of the attacking attempts of the second set and hit at an extremely high caliber.

As the third set got to a start, there was no noticeable change. Tendring continued to run the serve-receive game and controlled all of Cambridge’s servers. Their offense did not skip a beat and continued to turnover at an extremely high caliber. Midway through the set some changes were made in Tendring’s lineup, introducing McLaughlin, Dove, and Calum back into the line up. Although the lineup changed, the beat down did not. Tendring won commandingly, pushing them into another 3-0 victory.

This coming weekend Tendring will hit the road for two back-to-back games. The first will be played on November 3rd against Sheffield at 4:00pm in the All Saints Sports Centre, and will be followed by Leeds on November 4th at Ruth Gorse Academy.
