The first game of the Essex league Division One season was contested by the Tendring Lions v Tendring Heatec.  This was the first time these two teams have played against each other even though they play out of the same venue. The north east Essex derby was always going to be a great game to be involved in. Heatec had some new signings present, Neil Masters, Michael Welham, Simon Ibbotson and Chester Searle.

The first part of the first set was very tight and it was point for point.  Neil Masters and Stuart Dove were finding the spaces on the court to pull Heatec and also some good back court play from Nick Davies and Chester Searle ensured that Heatec which created a cap in points between the  two teams.  Heatec took the set 25-15.

Coach Becky Saunders made some changes in the 2nd set giving Simon Ibbotson his debut who impressed.  Again, the early stages of the 2nd set were tight.  Some tough serving from the Tending Lions put Heatec under some pressure.  Heatec though as resilient as they are, found their momentum again and took the 2nd set 25-15.

The 3rd set started well for Heatec with some tough Serving from Steve Parsons and John Embrey.  Half way through the set Coach Saunders made some more changes which steered Heatec to victory with a 25-15 scoreline and a 3-0 win with Neil Master being Most Valuable Player.

Afterwards Captain John Embrey said ‘It was a good start to the campaign for us and we hope to continue this form’.  Thanks goes to the Tendring Lions who were very competitive throughout.
