Tendring’s season opened with a trip up the A14 to play Coventry & Warwick Riga. Following an excellent pre season the new look Tendring team were keen to see if their hard work had paid off. Tendring looked focused from the start and a combination of service pressure and clever hitting saw Tendring take an early lead in the first set. Setter Davies continued to find the impressive Girmound through the middle which created space for the wing hitters to exploit. A strong service run from Yiannakkos stretched the lead and Tendring took the first set 25-17.
The second set began much like first with solid passing from from Bruce and Chilcoat which allowed Tendring to establish an early lead in the set. However Riga started to regroup and applied some pressure of their own via some clever serving. Tendring went into the first technical timeout with a narrow lead. Following the timeout Tendring regained focus and went on a devastating run of points with some excellent blocking from Dove and impressive backcourt hitting from Yiannakkos and Chilcoat. Tendring and Riga continued to trade points but the damage had already been done and Tendring took the second set 25-17.

The second game was against the Essex Juniors who are our big rivals, so we knew from the beginning that both teams would have to fight to win. We have played many games against each other from U15’s to U18’s but, it’s always a great game to be involved in.
Olivia Leonardi started the set off with a great service run, but Essex Juniors managed to stay in the set with the some good service pressure from their captain. It was 17-23 to Essex Juniors and that’s when we had to begin our fight back. Unfortunately, Essex Juniors took the first set 24-26.

As we arrived at the competition we so pumped and excited, our first game was against Ashcombe 2. It was our first competition of the season so as we started off we began to get back into the swing of things and working together as a team. Throughout the first set we began to talk to each other more and more talking about where the gaps were in the oppositions court and where to serve. We had started to play as team and help each other wherever we could.
Tendring Heatec extended their impressive win record to 28 victories against Chelmsford on Wednesday night. Heatec started strongly in the first set racing to an early lead. Good defensive work from Nick Davies and Libero Chester Searle put Heatec into a strong position. Jack Bruce tore the Chelmsford team apart with a 12 point service run including a top draw jump serve ace to the line. With the team in a dominant position Tom Dean’s impressive backcourt work and passing gave Heatec the cutting edge over Chelmsford. Simon Ibbotson and Stuart Dove smashed through Chelmsford’s defence to push Heatec over the line and record a comfortable 25-9 first set victory.
